The Chemex Coffee Brewer

The Chemex Coffeemaker was invented by a chemist who was inspired by his lab equipment, air displacement and wooden belly buttons.

This manual pour-over style glass coffeemaker, was designed by Peter Schlumbohm in 1941 and manufactured at the Chemex Glass Corporation; it so inspired designers at the Illinois Institute of Technology  that they claimed the Chemex Coffeemaker to be “one of the best-designed products of modern times” and it is included in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
